Method
Preparation
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and the egg. Stir together until a dough begins to form.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured surface, and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Allow it to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately 1-2 hours.
Filling and Shaping
- Mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Once your dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about 12x18 inches. Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
- Starting from one of the long sides, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal and slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
Final Preparation
- Place the slices cut side up in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
- While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Once the dough has risen again, pop it into the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and enjoy.
Notes
Warm the milk to the right temperature, knead the dough gently, and feel free to customize with nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips. For longer storage, freeze the bread wrapped tightly.
