Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, followed by the grated orange zest, fresh orange juice, and vanilla extract until incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. The dough will be soft but not sticky.
Baking
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet, about two inches apart.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack.
Glazing
- Mix powdered sugar with a tablespoon of fresh orange juice until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies.
Notes
Use fresh ground spices for the best flavor. Make sure your butter and egg are at room temperature. Don’t overbake; cookies will firm up after cooling.
