  • 8 small flour tortillas Tortillas should be warmed for pliability.
  • 8 slices American cheese Use quality cheese for better melting.
For Seasoning and Toppings
  • 0.25 cup butter, melted For brushing tortillas.
  • 0.5 tsp salt Adjust to taste.
  • 0.5 tsp pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce For fresh crunch.
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes Adds juiciness and flavor.
  • 0.5 cup diced onions Use mild or sweet onions for better flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add your ground beef. Season it with salt and pepper, and let it cook until browned.
  2. As the beef cooks, use a spatula to smash the meat down into flat patties.
  3. Once the patties are nearly cooked through, add a slice of American cheese on top of each patty and cover the skillet with a lid for a minute to help the cheese melt.
  4. In another pan, warm your flour tortillas with a brush of melted butter until they’re soft and pliable.
Assembly
  1. On each tortilla, place a smashed cheeseburger patty, followed by lettuce, diced tomatoes, onions, pickles, and a drizzle of your special sauce.
  2. Fold the tortillas around the filling, and your Smashed Cheeseburger Tacos are ready to serve!

Notes

Experiment with additional toppings like jalapeños or avocado. For a BBQ twist, substitute the special sauce with barbecue sauce.
