Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken soup if preferred.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to mix in other types of cheese for flavor.
  • 1 package frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Ingredients
  • diced onions Adds flavor when sautéed with the meat.
  • frozen mixed vegetables Can be included for added nutrition and color.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it’s browned, about 5-7 minutes. If using onions, add them to the skillet and sauté until translucent.
  3. Drain excess grease, then stir in the cream of mushroom soup and milk until well combined. Season with salt and pepper. Consider mixing in frozen vegetables for added nutrition.
  4. Pour the beef mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Evenly distribute shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  5. Arrange tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden and crispy.
  2. Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Best enjoyed hot and fresh.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with lentils or veggie crumbles and add extra vegetables like bell peppers and zucchini. Store leftovers in an airtight container for 3-4 days. To reheat, place in the oven or microwave until warmed through.
